What Is Summer Reading Therapy at IHL?
For students from Pre-K4 through adulthood, our reading therapy begins with a personalized skills assessment to uncover the skills needed for successful reading and writing. Our certified teachers with extensive reading and dyslexia (CALT) training then get to work crafting fun and engaging lessons to help each student unlock their potential.
Reading Therapy includes Orton- Gillingham based multisensory instruction in reading fluency, decoding words, spelling, handwriting, written expression, comprehension, vocabulary, grammar and so much more. Each lesson is one on one and tailored specifically to your child and their needs. Our premier literacy instruction is research-based and proven to help kids with dyslexia, ADHD, autism, and ANY child who is struggling with any variation of reading and writing skills.
We customize the learning experience by engaging students with songs, games, crafts, and other hands-on experiences to make the content memorable & fun. We believe that students need to be met where they struggle and given the opportunity to highlight and grow in their strengths.
Reading Therapy is tailored to meet each child and their unique literacy needs and is designed to be administered over a minimum of 30-90 hours over the summer. Our summer programming for Reading Therapy aims to address the specific goals and skills identified via the Initial Skills Assessment and Progress Monitoring completed throughout the year. With the luxury of more time with the students over the summer, this is often a time where students see the most amount of growth and it is imperative to supplement their school year therapy. Reading Therapy is designed for students who are seeking a full curriculum with instruction that typically extends beyond the summer months.
